Queenlessness can happen unexpectedly. A colony may lose its queen, a mating may fail, or you may discover that a colony needs requeening sooner than planned.
During the queen-rearing season we occasionally have mated queen bees available for immediate dispatch.
These surplus Northumberland Buckfast queens are made available through our Next Day Queen service specifically for beekeepers who need a replacement queen urgently.

The queens offered through our Next Day service are Northumberland Buckfast mated queens from the same breeding population as our scheduled-release queens.
Our Northumberland Buckfast has been developed through more than a decade of breeding and commercial selection in Northumberland, with selection focused on temperament, honey production, manageable swarming behaviour, colony health, overwintering and adaptation to British conditions.
These are not a separate or lower-grade queen. The difference is simply that these queens are surplus to our breeding requirements and are currently available for immediate dispatch.

Orders received before 1pm Monday–Friday are dispatched the same day by Royal Mail Special Delivery, subject to suitable dispatch conditions.

We were fortunate enough to collect a Buckfast swarm from a local farm cottage. We had an empty hive that we took them to, leaving them to settle. We checked on them to see how they were doing, only to find that they were queenless. The first thing I thought of was Northumberland Honey Co.
We ordered the Urgent Queen delivery. Luke and Suzie go the extra mile for their customers. Within minutes of the order on their website, I received a confirmation email. Then I was sent a tracking number. We were able to check the delivery – the information about what to do and how to look after the queen on arrival. Inside the box lid is a pedigree chart that lets you know the strain of bee and which hive it came from.

It was one of those situations every beekeeper experiences, the suddenly discovered need for a queen. Northumberland Honey Co was the answer to our problem, having a few queens available for urgent dispatch. The order was placed a little before 1pm and the queen duly arrived by post the next morning.
