At Hutch Family Honey, our approach to natural hair care grew from a very real starting point. Suzie Hutchinson PhD has naturally curly hair and struggled to find products that combined the performance she wanted with the carefully selected natural ingredients she preferred.
So, drawing on her scientific background and our experience developing cosmetics in-house, she began developing her own.
Our approach focuses on softness, conditioning, manageability, frizz control and natural curl definition — with every formulation extensively developed and tested in real life before we release it.
Today, our natural hair products form part of the wider Hutch Family Honey cosmetics range, developed in-house using carefully selected ingredients including beeswax produced by our own bees.

Curly Hair Products – What Does Curly Hair Need?
Curly hair can behave very differently from straight hair. Natural oils produced by the scalp have further to travel along the twists and turns of the hair, while differences in texture, curl pattern and individual hair condition can all influence how curls feel and behave.
For many people, the challenge is finding curly hair products that provide enough conditioning to leave curls feeling soft and manageable without leaving the hair feeling heavy.
Frizz control and curl definition are important too. Rather than trying to force naturally curly hair into a particular shape, we prefer products that work with the hair’s natural texture — helping curls feel conditioned, defined and easier to style.
That was exactly what Suzie was looking for when she began developing our first natural hair care formulation.

For us, choosing more natural ingredients shouldn’t mean accepting poorer performance.
Our approach to natural hair products for curly hair is therefore the same as our approach to skincare: start with what we want the finished formulation to achieve, select ingredients for a reason, and keep developing until we’re happy with how it performs in real life.
Our first haircare formulation began with Suzie’s own curly hair. She wanted a product that would condition and soften while helping to control frizz, define curls and make everyday styling easier.
The result was our Leave-In Conditioner — a concentrated formulation that can provide conditioning while also performing many of the functions people look for in a curl cream.

A curl cream is generally used to help improve curl definition, control frizz and make curly or wavy hair easier to style.
When Suzie developed our Leave-In Conditioner, she wanted more than conditioning alone. For her own naturally curly hair, she wanted a formulation that would soften and condition while also helping to control frizz, improve manageability and support natural curl definition.
The result is a product that can perform many of the functions traditionally associated with a curl cream, while remaining first and foremost a nourishing leave-in conditioner.
For curly hair, a small amount can be worked through damp mid-lengths and ends before allowing the hair to dry naturally or styling as usual. Because the formulation is concentrated, start with a small amount and add more according to your hair length, thickness and texture.
Natural Ingredients, Chosen for a Reason
For us, natural hair care should be about more than simply putting the word “natural” on a label. Ingredients need to contribute something useful to the finished formulation.
Our approach combines carefully selected conditioning ingredients and natural oils with ingredients produced on our own family bee farm.
Beeswax is an ingredient we know particularly well — because we produce it ourselves. In our Leave-In Conditioner, beeswax helps with manageability, curl definition and styling.
Its natural film-forming properties may also help protect the hair surface, although specific protection against heat damage has not been established in controlled studies.
It’s this combination of carefully selected ingredients and real-world performance that guides the natural hair products we develop.
From Our Bees to Our Hair Care
Hutch Family Honey is a little unusual in the cosmetics world.
We’re professional bee farmers as well as cosmetics producers, giving us a direct connection between the ingredients produced by our bees and the natural hair care and skincare products we develop.
Our formulations are developed in-house, led by Suzie Hutchinson PhD. Her scientific background in molecular nutrition influences the methodical approach we take to product development, while her own naturally curly hair provided the starting point for our first haircare formulation.
And we don’t rush products to market. New formulations undergo a minimum of 12 months of development and real-world testing before we consider them ready for release.
That testing matters. Our Leave-In Conditioner has subsequently been used on different hair types, with customers describing everything from defined curls and improved hold to smoother fine and flyaway hair.
If a formulation doesn’t perform in real life, we don’t release it.
