Hutch Family Honey
Family beekeepers. British honey. From our hives to your home.
Hutch Family Honey is the family honey brand from Northumberland Honey Company, created by professional bee farmers Luke and Suzie Hutchinson.
We’re the Hutch Family — a family of beekeepers based in Northumberland, raising our own bees and producing pure British honey from our own hives.
For us, knowing where your honey comes from matters. We’re involved throughout the journey, from breeding and raising our queen bees and caring for our colonies, to harvesting the honey and preparing every jar for you.
Our bees. Our hives. Our honey.
Meet the Hutch Family
Hutch Family Honey begins with our family.
Luke Hutchinson has kept bees since his teenage years and is now a professional bee farmer and queen bee breeder. He is Vice-Chair of the Bee Farmers’ Association of the United Kingdom, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers and a Freeman of the City of London.
Suzanne “Suzie” Hutchinson has a PhD in Molecular Nutrition from Newcastle University and combines her scientific background with practical beekeeping, honey bee breeding and the development of products made using honey and beeswax.
Together, Luke and Suzie founded Northumberland Honey Company in 2015.
What began as a family passion for bees has grown into a professional bee farming business managing hundreds of honey bee colonies and a substantial queen-rearing programme.
And it is still very much a family business.
Along with our children, we’re the Hutch Family — the family behind the bees, hives and honey.
Why Hutch Family Honey?
As Northumberland Honey Company has grown, one thing has remained particularly important to us: provenance.
We don’t want our honey to be anonymous.
We want you to know who produced it, where it came from and the work that went into caring for the bees that made it.
That’s why you’ll increasingly see the Hutch Family Honey name on our jars.
It’s our family name and our promise that there are real bee farmers behind the honey you buy.
From Our Own Bees
Unlike a honey brand that simply buys honey to put into jars, we are bee farmers.
We manage our own honey bee colonies, breed and raise our own queen bees and move colonies to carefully selected sites to make the most of different seasonal flowers and nectar sources.
Throughout the year our bees produce distinctive honey crops, from delicate spring and summer honeys to the rich, aromatic heather honey for which Northern England is renowned.
When the honey is ready, we harvest it from our colonies before extracting and preparing it through our own honey production facilities.
It gives us something increasingly important in food:
traceability from hive to jar.
Bee Farmers
Not Just Honey Sellers
Producing British honey begins long before a jar reaches the shelf.
Behind every harvest are thousands of hours spent raising queens, building colonies, checking bee health, moving hives, managing apiaries and working with the changing seasons.
Our bee farming operation now encompasses hundreds of production colonies alongside a substantial queen-rearing programme.
We breed thousands of queen bees each season, both for our own colonies and for other beekeepers across the UK.
Breeding healthy, productive bees suited to British conditions is an important part of our approach to sustainable bee farming and the future of British beekeeping.
Northumberland Honey Company & Hutch Family Honey
Hutch Family Honey is the family honey brand from Northumberland Honey Company.
Luke and Suzie established Northumberland Honey Company in Northumberland in 2015, and it remains the family business behind everything we do.
As our range has developed, we wanted the honey itself to carry a name that better represents the people behind it.
So while you’ll continue to see Northumberland Honey Company, you’ll increasingly find our honey carrying the Hutch Family Honey name.
The name may be becoming more prominent, but what is behind the jar hasn’t changed.
The same family.
The same bees.
The same commitment to producing genuine British honey with provenance you can trust.
Our Approach
We raise our bees
Queen rearing and bee breeding are at the heart of our bee farm. We raise thousands of queen bees each season and continually select colonies for the qualities we want to see in future generations.
We produce our honey
Our honey comes from bees managed by the Hutch Family, giving us direct knowledge of the colonies and landscapes behind each harvest.
We know its provenance
From apiary to extraction and from honey crop to finished jar, maintaining control of the process gives our honey genuine traceability.
We care about British bee farming
We’re committed to helping build a sustainable future for professional bee farming, British honey production and the next generation of beekeepers.
We're a family business
We’ve grown since 2015, but the people behind the business remain the Hutch Family. We believe that’s something worth putting on the jar.
Hutch Family Honey
For us, Hutch Family Honey is more than a new name on a label.
It’s a simple way of telling you exactly who stands behind your honey.
Hutch Family Honey
A family of professional bee farmers, raising bees in Northern England, producing British honey and caring about what goes into every jar.
The Hutch Family
Our bees. Our hives. Our honey.
From our hives to your home.
