Description
Proven Queen Bees From Our Breeding Programme
A breeder queen is not selected on pedigree alone.
Potential breeder queens are evaluated through their own colony performance and, where appropriate, the performance of their daughters before genetics are retained and expanded within our breeding programme.
Our records consider characteristics including temperament, honey production, swarming behaviour, overwintering, colony development, brood health and hygienic behaviour.
Queens that demonstrate characteristics we want to retain can become important breeding stock within subsequent generations.
What Is a Proven Overwintered Breeder Queen?
These are mature queens that have been retained and evaluated beyond their initial breeding season, giving us substantially more information than is available from a newly mated queen.
Depending upon the individual queen, this may include her pedigree, colony-performance records, overwintering and information from daughter colonies.
This additional evidence is what distinguishes a proven breeder queen from a standard production queen.
Are Proven Breeder Queens Available in 2027?
Proven breeder queens will not form part of our routine commercial queen production during 2027.
The most valuable queens are normally retained within our own breeding population. Removing one potentially removes genetics that could otherwise contribute to hundreds of future queens and colonies.
Occasionally, however, a proven breeder may become surplus to the future requirements of our programme. In these circumstances, she may be offered through this page.
There is no advance pre-order or waiting list.
Pedigree & Breeding Records
Any proven breeder queen offered for sale will be accompanied by information relevant to that individual queen and her breeding history.
Because these queens come from an evolving breeding programme, the pedigree and performance records will vary from queen to queen rather than customers selecting a predetermined line from a catalogue.
Our dedicated Queen Breeding page contains the wider pedigrees, daughter-testing records and selection principles behind the programme.
