Heather Sparkling Mead – 75cl Bottle

The essence of a Heather moor in a bottle. Heather Sparkling Mead reflects the pinnacle of the beekeeping season, the annual migration to the Heather Moors. The resulting Sparkling Mead is not only the longest to produce but carries the deepest flavour profile of any of the Sparkling Meads.

Honey: Heather Honey gathered by the bees of Northumberland Honey Co on the Northumberland Heather moors in the 2017 season.

Dryness: Brut with 10g/l residual sugars. However due to the power of Heather honey this comes across very well and gives the perception of sweetness and is the sweetest offering in the range.

Awards: Mazer Cup International, Speciality Open 2021: Gold

Heather Sparkling Mead | Traditional Method

Heather Sparkling Mead is created from our best Heather Honey which in turn creates a truely stunning Heather honey mead.

Production follows the same traditional method that is used to create the usual Sparkling Wine, but instead of using grapes uses heather honey to create the alcohol. Finishing at 12% abv which is on par with most sparkling wines and Champagnes.

Heather Honey used to create this mead, is hard won, gathered during the bees annual migration to the Heather moors in August. The production of Heather honey is very much dependent on the weather and conditions of the season, therefore in some years there may be very little honey produced indeed.

Competition: Mazer Cup International Commercial Mead Competition (Worlds largest mead competition)

Category: Speciality Open (Dry)

Award: Gold Medal

Tasting Notes

Heather honey mead is one of the most sought after meads. After all heather honey is the most popular and powerful honey you can make a mead from. That said, the taste is very much heather scented, a powerful moorland aroma on the nose, reminiscent of a day spent on the Northumberland Heather Moors. The initial taste is a dry floral flavour, followed by a lasting honey finish. A most complex and beautiful flavour.

A lovely drink. You can smell the honey notes as soon as you open the bottle. Great for special occasions or just as a treat!

What a lovely Find. I bought this as an alternative to the usual festive fizz. This is such a superior product tasting completely natural. The subtle aroma and taste of honey comes through in this beverage, making it a superb partner for a vintage cheddar cheese. Alternatively, take a sip, close your eyes, and be transported back to the hazy days of late summer, when the smell of our country’s wild moors, intoxicate your senses, and remind you of good things to come. My only regret is that I only bought one bottle!

I was really impressed with this as an alternative to the usual fizz. It has a wonderful aroma, is not too dry and has a marvelous hit of honey as it goes down. I bought two bottles at Christmas and have just bought more. My family were really impressed too.
